Attractions OF SOUTH KOREA WITH PHOTOS

SEOUL

is a very large and diverse city, and its landmarks are often spread across the entire area. I’ll highlight only a few here — all the others are marked on the map.

Cheonggyecheon Stream Park

A former overpass that was transformed into a park. Today, it’s probably one of the most popular places in Seoul.

Seoul City Wall

Another popular historical site, especially beautiful at sunset.

Yeollin Songhyeon Square

When visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace, stop by the nearby square. In spring and summer, it turns into a large field of flowers.

Itaewon Main Street

It’s interesting to watch the transformation of the city’s most international and party-oriented district. Come here on a Friday afternoon and compare how the area looks after dusk.

Library “Starfield”

Inside the shopping mall, there’s a bookstore-library. Even if you don’t plan to buy anything, you’ll definitely want to take photos here. You’ll also see the famous Gangnam Style hands statue located near the mall.

PLACES AROUND SEOUL

Mr. Toilet House

The Toilet Culture Museum is an unusual place. Entry is free, but the building and the surrounding park are very small, so it’s best to combine a visit here with the next two spots.

Starfield Library, Suwon

Another library — even more futuristic.

Hwaseong Fortress

An interesting area where an ancient fortress is woven into everyday city life. It’s not worth visiting on its own, but it works well combined with the two previous spots.

INSPIRE Entertainment Resort

A place made famous by Instagram and definitely worth visiting. Every half hour, short shows are displayed on screens along the walls and ceiling. Entry is free, and it’s located inside a hotel beyond the airport. There are also paid attractions that operate until 8 PM, so it’s best to visit during the day. You can get there from the airport by infrequent buses or by taxi.

Gangchon Rail Park

A park offering cycling tours along old railway tracks in a very scenic area. You can get there by train. Tickets for regular trains don’t need to be bought in advance, but for TRX high-speed trains, it’s better to book ahead.

Sokcho

Plan a 1–2 day trip to the coastal city of Sokcho. The city itself may not be very remarkable, but it’s located next to Seoraksan National Park. You can take a walk along the waterfront while you’re there. The most convenient way to get there is by bus. Be sure to buy tickets in advance, at least a week ahead.

National Park Seoraksan

Near the city of Sokcho, there is a cable car that takes you up to one of the park’s peaks. It’s better to wear comfortable shoes and walk another 20 minutes from the cable car to see the mountains from a different perspective. There are also more challenging routes for hiking enthusiasts.

BUSAN

The second most popular city in South Korea. It’s worth staying at least one day, ideally 2–3 days. Wear comfortable shoes — the city is very hilly. You can get there from Seoul by high-speed train, which reaches speeds of up to 300 km/h. Be sure to buy tickets in advance, at least a week ahead.

Beach Songdo

Красивый пляж рядом с канатной дорогой

Cultural Village Gamcheon

The main landmark of Busan. If you enjoy wandering through narrow streets, plan a full day for the visit. If not, you can stick to the main streets near the bus stops and view the village from the outside.

Haeunde Blueline Park

Mipo Station or Songjeong Station

The cutest tourist trains I’ve ever traveled on. Be sure to buy tickets in advance — at least one week before your trip. You can ride one way or round trip from your chosen station. There’s also a larger, regular tourist train available.
